85-Year-Old Woman Living in Prey Veng Happy After Receiving Donations from CRC

PREY VENG: The Cambodian Red Cross (CRC) has provided humanitarian aid to an 85-year-old woman living alone in a dilapidated house in Chek Thlok village, Trapeang Sre commune, Mesang district, Prey Veng province.

On Monday, 24 October 2022, the First Deputy Secretary General of the CRC, Men Neary Sopheak, along with a delegation from the CRC branch in Prey Veng Province, visited an 85-year-old woman, Chin Phoeun, living alone in a dilapidated old house in Mesang district, to provide her with donations including food, clothing, and some money.

CRC Secretary General Men Neary Sopheak also brought along a message from the President of the CRC, First Lady Bun Rany Hun Sen, to encourage the elderly woman.

"Her excellency Bun Rany Hun Sen, after learning about your difficult case, has expressed her sympathies and immediately sent a team to check your living situation and bring relief donations," she said.

After seeing that the woman’s house was in a bad state and that her roof was flooded, the CRC Secretary General followed the instructions given by the CRC President to assign the CRC Sub-Branch in Mesang District to cooperate with the local commune authorities to help repair the house, ensure that it is above sea level so will not get flooded and has a bathroom that is easily accessible for the 85-year-old. She clarified that the cost for these repairs will be borne by the CRC headquarters.

In response, the elderly Chin Phoeun thanked the CRC for acknowledging her difficult living conditions and providing humanitarian donations to alleviate her hardships as well as helping to repair her house.
